The FCC has recently reallocated the 6 GHz band (5925-7125 MHz) to allow access for unlicensed use. In doing so, they identified two types of devices: Low and Standard Power. Access for Standard Power devices is achieved through the use of an Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) system. Considering the basics of the FCC’s approach and exploring details of the AFC as well as longer term and international implications of this spectrum access approach.
